About
East Austin Paseo reimagines an underutilized alleyway as a vibrant public corridor rooted in community, ecology, and everyday gathering. Developed through collaboration with neighborhood residents and in partnership with Something Cool Studios, the project transforms a service space into a pedestrian-oriented paseo that strengthens connections between homes, businesses, and public life.
Native planting, shade trees, and natural materials soften the urban environment while creating habitat and seasonal interest throughout the year. Flexible gathering spaces, public art opportunities, and community programming help activate the corridor, encouraging both planned events and spontaneous daily use.
The project demonstrates how overlooked urban infrastructure can become meaningful civic space—creating a safer, greener, and more connected neighborhood while celebrating the unique character of East Austin.
