Set within the oak-studded grasslands of the Texas Hill Country, Cypress Mill Homestead explores the relationship between landscape, art, and architecture. Conceived as a series of outdoor rooms and experiences, the landscape unfolds as a collection of carefully composed moments - framed views, sculptural landforms, gathering spaces, and pathways that encourage exploration of the property and its surrounding ranchland.

Rather than imposing a formal garden onto the site, the design draws from the existing character of the land. Mature live oaks, native grasslands, and weathered limestone outcrops establish the framework, while new interventions are woven into the landscape with a light touch. Native meadows drift toward the architecture, blurring the boundary between cultivated and wild, while layers of grasses and flowering perennials provide movement, texture, and seasonal change throughout the year.

Throughout the property, functional elements are treated as sculptural objects within the landscape. A custom steel entry gate, ornamental pipe fencing, fire features, and stone terraces are carefully integrated into existing boulders and topography, creating moments that feel discovered rather than installed. Natural limestone pathways meander between the home, barn, and gathering spaces, guiding movement while reinforcing the site's quiet, ranch-like character.
