About
Located in the Sonoran Desert outside Tucson, the project is centered around creating shade, gathering spaces, and a stronger connection to the surrounding landscape. A new steel pavilion creates a place for outdoor dining and gathering while framing views out toward the mountains.
The design pulls from the existing desert landscape and local material palette, using weathering steel, masonry, stone, and drought-tolerant planting. Native and adapted plants soften the architecture and help the new work feel like a natural extension of the site.
The pavilion and landscape were designed together, with planting, hardscape, and structure working as one composition. The goal is a space that feels simple, grounded, and appropriate to the desert.
